Matt Scherer is a 6’1 defenseman that comes to the team from Illinois. Matt made the trip up for the Oro Medonte 77’s summer skate last week and the team made the decision to sign him right away. Patrick Geary said the following about his new blue liner “We are excited to have Matt come on board this season with the 77’s. He brings with him a rugged style mixed with puck moving skill. He will be a great fit on our back end”. When Scherer was asked about how he felt when he was signed by the management of the 77’s here is what he had to say "I'm excited to play here because I heard it is an outstanding organization. I love hockey and want to move on to higher junior levels and then college. I'm looking forward to being part of the team."
Matt Larmer is the second signing form this past weekend. Matt is a local talent that has come to the team from the Oro Minor Hockey System. Matt was also at the summer skate last week and impressed the coaching staff and management with his skill and ability on the ice. Here is what Coach Geary had to say about the signing of Larmer. “We are excited to have a local player like Larmer to help round out the defense group this season. He moves the puck well and has great vision on the ice”. Larmer is also excited to be playing for his hometown Junior Team and looks forward to having an excellent season with the 77’s.
The 77’s will continue to recruit throughout the summer months and will be conducting another training camp in August where they will fill out the rest of the 2010-2011 season roster.
