Alex Busvek led the way as the 77’s picked up their 4th win of the season in Minden on Sunday night. Busvek’s three goals and one assist were more than enough to sink the Riverkings. Team captain, Sly Spencer, was also a force to be reckoned with as he chipped in with one goal and two assists. The 77’s outshot the Riverkings 40-35 in what turned out to be a 6-2 victory.
The win came at the perfect time after the 77’s gave the Innisfil Lakers 2 points in front of a home crowd of 300 on Saturday night. 77’s new comer, Kale Barr, took 9 minutes in penalties late in the second with the score only 4-2. The undisciplined act sealed the 77’s fate on this night. The Lakers bulged the twine 3 times during the power play. After that it was all 77’s, scoring 3 goals in 3 minutes. The old Oro-Medonte barn was just a rockin' as the 77’s veteran players pushed on with a never die attitude. The charge was led by second year player, Alex Rigby, who potted 2 goals and added an assist.
Coach Stack was very unhappy with the discipline of his team on Saturday, commenting “We gave them the game. There are guys on this team that will learn if they can’t put the team first, they will find themselves riding pine or watching from the press box.” Stack was happy with the play of some of his players, especially Alex Rigby. “ It was nice to see Alex Rigby contribute tonight. He played with an edge that we have not seen yet this year. It is what we have been waiting for from him. Now it is just a matter of whether he can keep his level of play up and continue to contribute.”
The 77’s hit the road for their next 3 games and return home October 31st for a Halloween heavy weight fight as the defending Russell Cup Champions, South Muskoka Sheild, come to town. This one should be full of excitement as 77’s captain, Sly Spencer, faces his old team for the first time. Oro-Medonte fans should be there early as this one could sell out! We would rather turn away those South Muskoka fans at the door rather than our own, as we know they will surely try to invade our rink with their clappers and fog horns.
See you at the rink
